Chapter 28: Benny Bear’s Big First Impression
In the forest of Evergreen Hollow, a young bear named Benny was about to start a brand-new adventure. His family had just moved to the forest, and today was his first day at Woodland Academy. Benny was nervous—what if nobody liked him?
Mama Bear gave him a hug before he left. “Remember, Benny,” she said, “a good first impression is like planting a seed. It helps friendships grow!”
Benny nodded, but he wasn’t sure how to make a good first impression. He asked his wise old neighbor, Mr. Owl, for advice.
“Ah, Benny,” said Mr. Owl, adjusting his spectacles. “It’s simple. Start with three things: a friendly smile, kind words, and a helpful paw. Those will show everyone the real you!”
Benny practiced his biggest, friendliest smile in the mirror before heading off. “I can do this,” he said.
At school, Benny walked into the classroom and saw a group of animals chatting. He felt shy, but then he remembered Mr. Owl’s advice. Benny took a deep breath, smiled wide, and said, “Hi, I’m Benny! I’m new here.”
A chipmunk named Charlie grinned back. “Hi, Benny! Want to sit with us?”
Benny joined the group, and when class started, their teacher, Ms. Fox, asked for volunteers to hand out art supplies. Benny raised his paw high. “I can help!” he said.
As Benny passed out paintbrushes and paper, his classmates whispered, “Benny’s so nice!” and “He’s really helpful!” By lunchtime, Benny wasn’t nervous anymore. He played tag with Charlie and the others, laughing all the way.
When Benny got home, Mama Bear asked, “How was your first day?”
Benny beamed. “Great! I smiled, helped out, and made lots of friends.”
Mama Bear nodded proudly. “See? A good first impression is like planting a seed.”
Benny grinned. “And today, I planted a whole garden of friends!”
From then on, Benny always remembered that a smile, kind words, and a helpful paw could make any first day—and every new adventure—something to celebrate.
