Chapter 27: Harvey the Bold Hawk
High in the cliffs of Windy Ridge lived Harvey the Hawk, a young bird with big dreams. Harvey loved to soar across the sky, his wings cutting through the clouds. But while other hawks hunted or played, Harvey often perched on his favorite rock, dreaming.
One breezy morning, Harvey looked down at the forest below. “Why do we hawks only stick to the cliffs?” he wondered. “What if we explored the whole valley? Imagine what we could find!”
His sister, Hattie, flapped over, laughing. “Harvey, hawks don’t leave the cliffs! That’s how it’s always been.”
“But what if we could?” Harvey asked, his golden eyes shining. “What if there’s more waiting for us out there?”
Hattie shook her head, but Harvey’s heart was set. He decided to be bold. Early the next morning, before the sun peeked over the mountains, Harvey stretched his wings and dove off the cliff—not toward the forest edge, but beyond it, toward the unknown.
The valley was beautiful—shimmering rivers, wide open fields, and even an orchard filled with ripe, juicy apples. Harvey perched on a branch and marveled at the new sights. “If only the others could see this,” he thought.
But as he prepared to fly back, dark clouds rolled in. The wind howled, tossing Harvey through the air. “Maybe this was a mistake,” he muttered, flapping hard against the storm.
Still, Harvey pushed on, remembering his dream. “I have to show them what’s possible!” he said to himself.
When he finally reached the cliffs, soaked but determined, a crowd of hawks waited. “Harvey, where were you?” Hattie cried.
“Exploring,” Harvey said, puffing out his chest. “And you won’t believe what I found—a whole valley, full of food and places to fly! We don’t have to stay here. We can go farther!”
The hawks murmured, unsure. But Hattie stepped forward. “I want to see it too,” she said. “Will you show me?”
Harvey grinned. “Let’s all go! Together, we can discover so much more.”
The next day, Harvey led his flock to the valley. They soared over rivers, played in fields, and feasted on apples. From that day on, Harvey wasn’t just any hawk—he was Harvey the Bold, the one who dared to imagine a bigger, better life for everyone.
Harvey’s story reminds us that being bold means flying beyond what’s familiar and believing in what could be. Sometimes it’s scary, and sometimes it’s hard, but the best discoveries come when we dare to dream. So, spread your wings—what amazing things might you find?
